About

Hi, I’m Rob Goodwin. I am a Southern author, playwright, podcaster, and public speaker. For more than 15 years I have been an outspoken advocate for mental health awareness. As someone who lives with bipolar disorder, I fully understand the pain and anguish felt by those who battle depression and related illnesses every day. God has given me the talent and the opportunity to speak publicly. I use this platform to bring awareness, eliminate stigma, promote health and wellness, and to simply share love.

As a writer, I have been inspired by my Southern roots. My first book, “Porch Swings and Prayer” was inspired by my love for my maternal grandmother, Bertie Mae. She was a force to be reckoned with and stood firm as my greatest advocate. As a young boy, we didn’t know what to call my illness, but she guided me as if she were a modern-day scientist. She found both spiritual and physical ways to ease my pain. Whether it was long walks and storytelling of days gone by, or prayer in her front porch swing, only she could calm me. The book is not only my love letter to Granny, but also my personal story in an effort to inspire and educate others.

I also write fiction. Both my second and third books, “One in Every Family,” and “The Dixie Cafe” are fiction. I have also been blessed with the opportunity to write and direct two plays, The Dixie Cafe and A Walk on the Cape. Writing and working with actors is my passion. My plays are comical with dramatic undertones, always giving awareness to mental and spiritual health.

JustRobby is a site dedicated to my short stories with a few personal entries here and there. I do not write for commercial success. If it comes, that is up to God. I write for personal healing, pleasure to others, and fulfillment of God’s plan for my talent.

Thank you for taking this journey with me. I hope you will come back often and enjoy an occasional break from reality, drifting away to some unique place with extraordinary characters-a little humor and a lot of heart.
